I bought a textbook off a friend for College this upcoming year, and it turns out he left it in the trunk of his car. Something happened (not sure of the whole story) but now the inside pages are wet and wrinkled, and very hard to read because the pages all stick together. Is there any way I can dry them out and flatten them, or is the book basically ruined? How can I dry out a textbook and remove the wrinkles in the pages?
its most likely ruined, you could give cornstarch a try....clamp the book closed, and sprinkle corn starch directly on the paper edge, put it inside of a covered cooking pot and place it close to a wet heat source (example, warm steam humidifier) for 24 hour, then a dry heat source for another 24 hours. Then put it between 2 heavy books and sit that under something really heavy for yet another 24 hours.
The reasoning behind the corn starch and steam is corn starch is what is used in packaging any cooking powder, its used as an anti-caking agent. How can I dry out a textbook and remove the wrinkles in the pages?
There is nothing you can do for this. What you expend in time, you should just go get another book. Sorry.
I think you have to get a new book.
I have tried to dry and even iron some damaged books, but had to realize that covered paper also does not react well to heat. You may get some wrinkles out just to get other dimples in. It will never be smooth again and it may reek as well. If the pages are already sticking together and are damaged, it is really time to say good bye.
You may be able to find lower priced textbooks in your college or online. There are places selling just used textbooks. Another place is Half.com or even Amazon which has used books as well but more expensive shipping.
Try gently blow-drying the pages on a medium heat. If that dosent work, get your friend to buy you a new textbook, after all.. it was his fault.
